L’ exposition estivale de Parisian Laundry, Summertime in Paris, se réinvente cette année en se jumelant au projet montréalais Extreme Painting. Elle présente sept artistes canadiens et internationaux qui concentrent leur travail sur l’utilisation de la peinture dans ses multiples dimensions.

Vernissage ce jeudi à 17h - Sixième édition de Peinture fraîche et nouvelle construction @ Art Mûr.

Sixième édition de Peinture fraîche et nouvelle construction

Peinture fraîche et nouvelle construction est de retour pour une sixième édition surprenante et haute en couleur. Véritable vitrine de la nouvelle génération en arts visuels de l’Est du Canada, événement attendu par les collectionneurs et intervenants du milieu des arts, cette exposition collective annuelle sera présentée dans l’ensemble de nos espaces (sur trois étages) et regroupera plus de cent soixante œuvres picturales, sculpturales et installatives.

Emmanuel Galland et François Lalumière empruntent à la photographie, à la sculpture et au collage pour jouer avec l'espace architectural urbain à travers l'installation in situ Retourne-moi.

L'architectonique de l'édifice abritant le commerce « La Maison du Peintre » et la galerie d'articule est symétrique : on peut parler ici d'effet miroir. Les artistes reproduisent la façade du magasin de peinture dans le « cadre » d'articule, créant ainsi un facsimilé tridimensionnel presque parfait. À croire que le magasin de peinture double sa surface. À moins qu'un tournage cinématographique ne déploie ses décors.

Depuis plus de trente ans, l’œuvre de Jenny Holzer apparie texte et installation en vue de scruter des réalités personnelles et sociales. Dans la présente exposition, centrée sur son travail du milieu des années 1990 jusqu’à présent, Holzer fusionne discours politique et beauté des formes.

There are only a few days left to check out the awesome exhibit at Glamort tattoo parlour, a retrospective of Lipstik Design's work over the last 10 years. More like a space invasion than an In Situ installation, Lipstik's stuff looks like Big Brother on Extacy; his objects - made of Dollarama items, bazaar scraps and Wal-mart findings, the factory-chain products destined for the masses become his malleable material, completed with a packaging exhibiting chimerical babes and catch-phrases.

Obviously having a blast creating an alternate reality filled with his icons, he borrows from worlds that don't differ so much - advertising and soft porn. An unpolished reflection of the main marketing tendency since the very inception of the concept, he exhibits the use of women in ads and popular culture over the decades to the point of overkill - which is sort of an oxymoron, as popular culture itself isn't nearly quite done with its favorite iconic source. His ominous trademark logo acts as a signal for a pending apocalypse and a party for Playboy, the last hot message on your answering machine before the world implodes on itself and the mess it's made. Plastered over everything, etched into the flesh of fabricated female icons, Lipstik takes the stuff of advertising and makes his own branding, a fictitious monopoly that declares: can you really change what sells?

Young Blood by Frances Allen @ Off The Hook (Young Healers zine issue launch) June 29th 7pm

Frances Allen is a young film photographer who focuses on the punk and hardcore scene. She recently quit art school and has decided to pursue photography on her own. She currently lives in Toronto.

Young Healers is a publishing venture that focuses on emerging
photographers through print zines. The objective is to publish monthly
issues that coincide with a gallery launch for the corresponding
edition. Each issue will feature the work of an up-and-coming
photographer, some shooting specifically for the project, others
selecting photos from their existing portfolio.
